I used to think I read a lot. Well, that’s how it seemed to me. I ordered books on Amazon, read books in the original that hadn’t been translated into Russian and that were impossible to buy here in Ukraine. A trip to the stores never ended without buying a book.

Sometimes it seemed like I wasn’t reading much. Especially when I hadn’t picked up a book for a month. Or when my eye caught on an unfinished book on the table.

Sometimes I was so impatient to read the next book that I started reading two books in parallel. Well, why torture yourself and deny yourself when you can enjoy two at once! (Hussars! Silence!)

Six months ago I realized that without a system, I couldn’t move forward. So I decided to make a plan and read one book a week. That is, read 54 books in a year.

It turned out not to be that hard. Besides, I’m running with a small cushion of about one week. I can say with complete confidence that regular reading has become a habit. And now I understand how little I used to read before. If you read 54 books a year, then in ten years you can read 540. Five hundred and forty books!

And I can already even see ways for myself to read not one but two books a week, that is, to bring the plan up to 100 books a year. Reading books fits perfectly into a lifestyle in which I gave up reading news, subscribing to public pages, and so on.

Welcome to the “54 Books in a Year” club. Admission is free.
